How do I become certified?

Belong to a CPRA Member Association

Register for the Program
Participants must register online and pay the program fee. Participants have 2 years from the date of registration to complete all certification requirements.
Ex: Dominic registered for certification on March 31, 2016. He must complete his certification requirements by March 30, 2018.

Complete Certification Courses
Participants must pass two nationally delivered online certification courses. Both aim to create a shared body of knowledge across the sector.
Courses offered in the fall (Sept-Nov) and winter (Jan-Apr).

Complete Knowledge Presentation
Participants must create a case study based on an issue or event related to their practice. The case study will be presented in written and oral formats to a Knowledge Presentation Review Panel. Participants will demonstrate to their peers an understanding of the core competencies and current issues as they relate to their own experience.
Certification Period
The CPRA Professional Development Certificate is valid for 3 years effective June 1st following the completion of certification requirements. To retain the certificate, participants must complete all recertification requirements within these 3 years. Learn more about recertification.
Ex: Emma completed her certification November 31, 2015. The certification becomes valid for 3 years effective June 1, 2016 (similar to finishing university degree requirements in December but having official convocation in June). To retain her certification, Emma must complete her recertification requirements by May 31, 2019.
