Extra Pension Boost Confirmed for Canadian Seniors in October 2025

Canadian seniors are set to receive a welcome financial boost this fall as the federal government has confirmed an additional increase to pension payments starting October 2025. The adjustment, linked to inflation, will benefit those receiving the Old Age Security (OAS), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).

Why Seniors Are Getting a Pension Boost in October 2025

The government reviews OAS and GIS payments every quarter to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). For the October to December 2025 quarter, a 0.7% increase has been confirmed.

This means seniors will see slightly higher payments beginning with the October deposit. While CPP adjustments are reviewed annually in January, eligible retirees may still experience combined benefits exceeding earlier estimates due to quarterly indexing of OAS and GIS.

New OAS Payment Rates for October to December 2025

For October 2025, the maximum OAS benefit for seniors aged 65 to 74 will rise to $714.76, while those aged 75 and above will receive up to $814.09 monthly.

These changes ensure that pensions keep pace with rising living costs, particularly at a time when inflation continues to affect groceries, housing, and essential services.

GIS Payment Update for October 2025

The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), which provides additional support to low-income seniors, will also rise by 0.7% this quarter. The maximum GIS amount for a single senior is expected to surpass $1,072 monthly, depending on income eligibility.

This increase provides added relief to vulnerable seniors struggling to keep up with everyday expenses.

CPP Payments Continue Without Change Until 2026

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) payments remain stable through the remainder of 2025, as increases are calculated annually in January. However, many seniors rely on a combination of CPP, OAS, and GIS — meaning the October 2025 boost will still provide noticeable financial relief.

Payment Dates for October 2025

Seniors can expect their next pension deposits on the following dates:

  • OAS and GIS: Wednesday, October 29, 2025
  • CPP: Wednesday, October 29, 2025

Those receiving direct deposit will see funds automatically sent to their bank account, while mailed cheques may take a few business days longer.

Who Qualifies for the Extra Boost?

To receive the increased payments in October 2025, seniors must:

  • Be 65 years or older and approved for OAS.
  • Meet income thresholds for GIS eligibility (if applicable).
  • Already be enrolled in OAS, GIS, or CPP through Service Canada.

There is no need to reapply for the increase, as adjustments are automatic.

The October 2025 pension boost is a modest but meaningful step in helping Canadian seniors navigate rising living costs. With OAS and GIS indexed quarterly, retirees can expect continued adjustments designed to protect their purchasing power as inflation shifts in the months ahead.
